In Shadow of a Doubt, Patricia Collinge plays Joseph Cotten's ditzy sister (and Teresa Wright's mother). Not available on Hulu, but you can stream at: Joseph Cotton also stars in the following:Īlfred Hitchcock Presents, Season 5, Episode 9 He has to figure out how to get out, hopefully, without anyone noticing. Cotten has to stop her in a most violent manner but ends up getting locked in the office building with her over the holiday weekend. When he starts back-peddling on the divorce, she decides to take matters into her own hands and call the wife herself. He tells her that everything is okay, that he has told his wife that he wants a divorce, but in reality he has no intention of ever leaving his rich wife. In this episode directed by Robert Altman and set at Christmas-time, Joseph Cotten plays a married man, trying to pacify his young mistress. Also in the episode in a small role, is Raymond Bailey, who played Milburn Drysdale on the Beverly Hillbillies.Īlfred Hitchcock Presents, Season 3, Episode 15 The episode is more of a psychological study as Cotten desperately tries to figure out how to convince someone he is still alive. Unable to speak or even blink his eyes, he is unable to ask for help from the people who happen by and assume he is dead. While on a car trip, he has an accident where he is paralyzed and trapped in the car. In this episode directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Joseph Cotten plays a businessman. I'm going to look at two of them.Īlfred Hitchcock Presents, Season 1, Episode 7 Joseph Cotten appeared in three episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I did find several of the other stars on episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, which is available streaming. I did find this TCM Word of Mouth video where Teresa Wright discusses, Alfred Hitchcock and Shadow of a Doubt, so that will have to do for her: Teresa Wright is upset when her husband hires a crazy drifter to work on the family farm. The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Season 3, Episode 6 Teresa Wright co-stars with Dan Duryea, a bigamist who has four wives, well, that is until the one wife goes after the other three. The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Season 2, Episode 12 Unfortunately, this later series doesn't seem to be available streaming. She even did two episodes of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Hitchcock's hour-long series (1962-1965). Sadly, I wasn't able to find, Teresa Wright. This is an all Alfred Hitchcock edition of Big Stars Small Screen looking at stars from Shadow of a Doubt (1943). It's probably not worth buying an entire season on DVD just for an episode or two. The parameter of this series is I try to keep it to appearances where you can stream single episodes. Just don't get your hopes and expectations too high.Sunset Boulevard This series takes the stars from a certain big screen film and looks at where those stars appeared on the small screen, TV. If you have never seen the 1986 version of "The Jar", it can be viewed by clicking on the link below this paragraph. Unfortunately, Ray's story was updated and dramatically altered and, in my opinion, the remake does not come even remotely close to the power of the 1964 original. The 1986 version starred Griffin Dunne, Fiona Lewis and Laraine Newman, and was directly by Tim Burton. "The Jar" was subsequently remade for television in 1986 as an episode of THE NEW ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR. If you have never seen it, you are in for a treat! It appears that the links to the 1964 show previously posted on this forum no longer work, but it can be currently viewed by clicking on the link below. It remains for me one of the finest, most wonderfully creepy television shows ever aired. The musical score was by Bernard Herrmann. It starred Pat Buttram, Collin Wilcox, William Marshall, Slim Pickens and Jane Darwell, and was brilliantly directed by Norman Lloyd (who only recently passed away at age 106). It had a fine script by James Bridges which was reasonably faithful to Ray Bradbury's short story. "The Jar" was shown in 1964 on THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR. Been toying with the idea of picking the set up along with a region-free DVD player, but I'm also holding out hope that someone like Shout Factory will do a U.S. The full run got a release in the UK and Australia, I believe. And there appears to be no plans to release the remaining seasons (or any of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour). They released the first season on crappy double-sided DVDs that are prone to skipping the next four seasons were treated decently but then the sixth was released as a "print on demand" set-burned DVDs, essentially. To this day, she gets the willies thinking about it.Īs an aside, it's a real shame that Universal (I believe it's them), cares so little about AHP. It scared the living daylights out of her. My mother remembers seeing the episode as a young girl, back when it first aired. I absolutely love Alfred Hitchcock Presents, but have never seen "The Jar," so thanks for pointing this out.
